 DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is the primary agency responsible for the conservation, management, development, and proper use of the country’s environment and natural resources, including specifically mineral resources.
 “Covering the Extractive Industries, Digging Out Stories that Matter” is a training and fellowship program for media practitioners done by PH-EITI in collaboration with the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) to engage “the fourth estate” and help make reportage and public discourse on the extractives more data-driven, nuanced, and balanced.
Established in 1964 and known as the country’s national association of newspapers, PPI is considered the oldest professional media organization in the Philippines. PPI has 18 member publications in Luzon, 23 in Visayas, and 17 in Mindanao. It also has 13 members in the National Capital Region, including leading daily newspapers.  Key executives from various mining companies gathered for the consultation on the ORE tool New web-based system will simplify the cumbersome manual reporting process.
The procedure for reporting payments by mining companies to the government is about to go online and paperless as PH-EITI lays the groundwork for a new reporting mechanism. The PH-EITI Secretariat, on March 19, convened a technical working group composed of representatives from the mining and oil and gas industries and concerned government agencies to present a prototype of a proposed web-based reporting application.  DENR DAO 2017-07 Mandating PH-EITI participation of Mining Contractors About a year after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2017-07 that mandates “mining contractors to participate in the Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative”, the said DAO has begun to be implemented by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).
